JOB TITLE : Team Manager
REPORTING TO: Head of Broker Services
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:
By being part of the Underwriting Agency Department, to assist with the efficient performance of the Department and to supervise their own team, ensuring that they achieve the targets set in order that the Company’s strategic objectives are met.
KEY TASKS AND ACCOUNTABILITES :
• Contribute towards the preparation of the business plan and be involved in the teams part of this including reporting on results and reviewing and monitoring progress.
• Act as technical reference point and provide underwriting decision/interpretation on the more complex cases referred by staff, including those from other Commercial teams if appropriate, also ensuring that referrals to the Insurers are made when appropriate.
• Assist where required with technical and systems training for new or inexperienced staff.
• Advise Claims Department on larger claims and repudiations when required
• Initiate and maintain excellent working relationships with management and staff at all levels within the Company, with the Insurers and our Customers in order to contribute towards the profitable development of our business.
• Control day-to-day operations of the team to ensure the agreed service and reporting standards to the customers are maintained.
• Ensure credit control complies with departmental requirements.
• Complete Performance appraisals and career development planning sessions for all staff under your control when required.
• Manage the audit process within your team, including a quality control system of check, as required, being responsible for any resulting training issues or procedure changes.
• Create career development opportunities for staff and provide assistance where required.
• Continuously improve own development in accordance with own development plan.
• Assist the Management in ensuring all staff are adequately trained and competent to perform their jobs effectively, as required by FSA.
• Assist the Management in ensuring the team complies with all regulatory requirements of the FSA.
Within 12 months:
• Complete all identified (advanced) training modules.
• CII FIT as a minimum.
• Excellent knowledge of in-house systems with a minimum assessment score of 4 in in-house assessments in all defined areas.
PERSON SPECIFICATION –
Education/Qualifications(or equivalent)
Desirable
• Formal insurance qualifications at ACII desirable
Experience/Knowledge
Essential
• Minimum 5 years commercial underwriting or broking experience
• Excellent general insurance knowledge with a minimum assessment score of 4 in all defined areas
• Excellent knowledge of products with a minimum assessment score of 4 in all defined areas
• Excellent knowledge of in-house systems with a minimum assessment score of 4 in all defined areas
• Good general insurance market knowledge
Experience/Knowledge
Desirable
• A good understanding of available markets and carriers
• Experience in training others on technical matters and systems
